The chondrocytes, well I might as well do my own rap about this; are the cells found in the cartilage. Their function is to synthesize and produce the collagen, proteoglycans, and elastin fibers that the cartilage consists of. Chondrocytes live in a hypoxic environment because there are no vessels located inside the cartilage as this becomes vital for their function. The chondrocytes gets their oxygen and other nutrients from bone and vascular areas in the synovial and subchondral bone. In healthy bone and tissue this prevents arthritis. Arthritis occurs when, chondrocytes are no longer produced in the cartilage, as this results in cartilage damage and joint pain occurs. This happens as a result of changes to the subchondral bone and vascular areas that produce catabolic factors and produce cell surface factors or receptors for cytokines, chemokines, alarmins, adipokines and prostanoids. These factors from the subchondral are what causes cartilage degradation and inflammation of cartilage. As a result the cartilage no longer maintains homeostasis and arthritis continues it's progression.
It would really be nice to have good news about this; that cortisol stuff does not last, similar to money and can cause nerve damage bone thinning, problems with diabetes, heart disease, blood pressure and weight gain if used over long periods of time. Chondroitin sulfate is actually a molecule that is produced in the body(in the bones and connective tissue). Well, well, well- so it's natural. If used as a supplement chondroitin sulfate will provide nutrients to the existing cartilage to inhibit cartilage damage and promote cartilage growth and elasticity. The cartilage will conform to it's order and do bones in the body justice because of the use of Chondroitin sulfate for prevention of it's ago old way of desire/degredation.
Chondroitin sulfate a day keeps the arthritis away!
