There are many issues regarding the lack of jobs. But there is one issue that neither person running for office has tackled and that is the issue of the underpaid workforce. What plan does the president elect have in order to bolster the salaries of workers who are underpaid? By this I am not talking about the new jobs that will be created over the years in energy and other areas of new types of employment. The jobs I am referring to are those in healthcare and other areas. Both people running for president say that they are going to work to encourage and assist small business. It is small business that employs many a person and yet it is the same small business that maintains a staff of underpaid workers. My question to the president elect is: What is your plan to financially assist the small business eg. medical office, so that they are compatible with larger companies in that an employee is not underpaid, has health insurance, disability and has a way of saving money for retirement by being employed by that small business?
My reason for asking is simple. Without going into a sordid detail about myself. I can say that this is not a profession I choose. I am honest in that I do feel that most people have a niche and for some strange reason I get hired for jobs that are not of my niche. Yes, for the last seven years I have been extremely unhappy. I will not toot my own horn, but employers must be realistic when hiring people. Why? Well, because when you have someone with the intellegence to earn a BA and Th.M, you cannot expect that individual to enjoy doing work that does not require very much intelligence. The dynamic that occurs here is that when you hire a person who is educated to do work that does not require much intelligence at all; the office produces a "simulated" environment to mock that of a job or career for an educated person. This means that, most times you get the silliness of patients, and other medical personel who create problems to justify ones level of employment so that the job seems really high skilled; when the only thing that is high skilled about it is the fact that I don't get a lunch hour. This is insulting as it has been for me the last seven years. To some people I may be considered a looker, which comes with it's own annoyance and unwanted attention. For the most part I am a serious person who just likes to get the job done without too much chatter or fanfare and I do not need many people around me even personally. I do think it's ok to be a loner since I am not a people person. I don't know why but I can never seem to find that job that will allow me to work without such nonsense that I have just described? I seek jobs that do not have a lot of direct contact with the public. It's really strange that an employment agency would only offer me a job involving the public as I work in a medical office and I do many many things, my resume is posted. There is no challenge to this work, as I am underpaid. I just find it boring and tedious.
My reason for this letter or message to the president elect is to ask what type of small business entity does he plan to create that would stipulate that small business including medical offices need to comply with in order to remain in business? I earn $15.00 an hour, I have not had a vacation in seven years. In a larger company a worker is entitled to 2 weeks vacation, 5 sick days and 5 personal days and certain holidays. These companies also provide health insurance, 401 or some sort of retirement plan along with disability and other benefits associated with working for a larger company. I work 4 days a week. But in a small business since you do not have the staff to do the work(which is why it is considered a small business) you are still responsible for most if not all of the work if you are out or absent. As a result I go to work the 4 days a week and on my day off I write among other hobbies to challenge my intellect since the tank is clearly empty during those 4 days in working for a medical office. To me this is not acceptable employment in that you allow small business to function the way that it does because it inadvertendly takes advantage of the worker who for some strange reason is hired to work in this capacity. The excuse is of course that they are a small business and cannot afford to provide to the workers these benefits. Small business should not be allowed to function this way.
The economy or any excuse will do is the reason for people who may be in the same situation as I am, who as a result ended up working for a medical office and a small one at that. This type of work takes a toll on an individual especially if this is not your passion, interest, this also affects temperament. Some people are just not in the correct niche and for me working in a medical office is not one of them. If you were to ask how I ended up in such a situation.
In getting to the point of my letter or message to the president elect, I want to know what the president elect plans to do regarding small business?
Do you plan to crack down on small businesses that may be considered abusive? There may not be a law stating that a business must provide health insurance or retirement, but you must understand that to work constantly and to have to deduct health insurance, disability, retirement from my $15.00 an hour paycheck as I have obtained and pay for on my own does not leave me with very much afterwards. My employers contribute nothing. If you deduct that amount I really earn less than $4.00 an hour for one paycheck. I get paid twice a month. My health insurace does not cover vision and dental. I'm a private person and one should have choices in life so I would prefer to not excise the second opinion option of seeing either one of the two physicians I work for in order to get a physical. The other check of the same amount goes to long term care(I have no offspring to shack up with once I get terribly old), other insurance such as life, utilities, bus fare and on my budget I spend no more than $4.00 a day on food. So with the other paycheck minus those expenses rounds out to be less than $6.00 an hour. Where do I live on this income, with my parents? I'm almost 50. Small business should not be allowed to function if the common deduction regarding health insurance, retirement and disability from a standard paycheck cannot be met. Currently, there is no task force designed to address the problems small businesses have such as this. There is no deduction or tax credit an employee of a small business can have to offset all of the money they have paid out over the years for health, disability, or the fact that any monies I contribute to my retirement do not consist of a matching contribution. Therefore, small business has simply created abusive havens for those who end up working for such companies. There is no one to complain to regarding the subsequent under minimum wage salary. So I ask the president elect, what do you intend to do regarding the governing of small businesses?
An idea would be to ensure that small businesses must either apply for a subsidy (the federal government can allocate money on a yearly basis) to offset payroll amounts or to allow an employee tax credit equal to the amount of a deduction that would occur if the employer were contributing. An example would be this If I pay $230.00 a month in health insurance. And the standard or common deduction for an employee's contribution is appx. $50.00 per paycheck, then the tax credit should range from appx. $100.00 per month; about $1,200 a year. In small business since there are no retirement plans to match funds with, if the average contribution is $200.00 a month or $2,400 a year there should be a standard credit of $200.00 for every $1,000 contribution, the same method also goes for disability. Small business should not be exempt from offering necessities.
If you champion small business, then you should see to it that they are run efficiently with respect to adequate wage allowance and benefits. Small business should also have to adhere to a structure regarding vacations and sick days ect. just like any other company. There should exist a small business task force designed to assist those companies that need temporary workers so that people can take vacations or days off if necessary. If not then the small business or company should be reported for human disregard of workers regarding their ability to take time off ect. It is the small business and or company that takes advantage and creates a mockery of sorts because legally they can state that they don't have to money or resources to do anything else, thus they exist as abusive employee havens under the guise of operating as a small business.
I certainly, feel that I am not in the right niche regarding employment and I do think it best that people work in areas that they are suited for. You cannot make a person a who is not a people person into one that enjoys people and vice versa. Educated people need jobs that represent their intellect and of course salary. I resent the dummy down of America in that you are providing jobs of low wages and skills to educated people. It's time to move on unless you want the intelligent portion of society to regress and if that occurs then there has been no progress made. As this is what you do when you allow employment such as this, especially with small business to occur.
I ask the president elect, to utilize each and every citizen productively. Do not allow the abusive hiring havens and continue of employ of people whereby intellect is wasted 8 hours a day, along with the continued abuse of lower than minimum wage due to the cost of health insurance, disability and retirement costs. I ask that the president elect acknowledge every person as human so that people are not working without time off as though they are superhuman or another species of person.
If the president elect does not take matters and concerns of employee's in small businesses in to serious consideration; then his time in office was just going from North to get to South!
My resume is ready and I have more than sacrificed. I'm sure there are others that have the same sentiment.
